How much money should I bring and how will I obtain more money there? It is difficult to determine how much you will need as everyone lives differently. But some things to consider are, laundry costs about $4 per load and internet costs about $2 per hour. You may want to purchase coffee and pastries and candy in the coffee bar. See the Dining section for more info. Weekend travel costs will depend on how often and how far you go. Do not bring Travelers Checks. They do not work here. An ATM card is very useful for getting cash. The closest ATM bank machine is about 15 minutes away by bus. An ATM machine is the best way to get money and it will be given in Hungarian Forints. Students will be able to get money from their ATM accounts at least 3 times a week.

If I bring a laptop do I need to bring any special equipment for the internet? You will need a wireless card to connect to the internet through our Internet Cafe. You will still need to purchase an internet time code to access the internet but you can use your own computer to do so.
Will I have email? Through our Internet Cafe you will have access to your web based email (such as hotmail or yahoo, etc.)
How old do I have to be to attend? You must be in the 9th grade or older.
Do I need to bring sheets, pillows or towels? At least one towel yes, linens no.
How will I know my child arrived safely? Have your child call you as soon as they arrive, they should have time to call you from the airport or once they arrive here at the campus. Upon arrival here they can purchase a phone card from our Coffee Bar and use our Voice over IP phone to call you. Our calling card costs are low as we use a Voip system. All our phones may be busy for awhile as so many people call home as soon as they arrive. They can email you as soon as they arrive also with a purchase of an internet time code from the coffee bar. If they are going to arrive here too late for the our Coffee Bar to be open they should plan on calling you from the airport or from Budapest somewhere, or from the payphones in the dorm hallways of our campus. If your child does not call you, please feel free to email to ask about them. It is not uncommon for a person to forget to call home after that long traveling day.

You will need an adaptor but not a converter for your laptop. We do sell converters (we have only a few) and adaptors (we have a lot) in the coffee bar. The converter changes the electricity to match your appliance, the adaptor slips over your plug and makes it fit in the electrical sockets here.
Should I bring Travelers Checks? No. They do not work here.
Should I bring a calling card? You will not need a phone card for use here at the campus but if you want to call home while on an outreach away from our campus then bring a phone card and bring the Hungarian dial in phone number for the card you purchase.
Can a parent pay money for a students internet or phone usage? Not directly, but you can put money into your student's bank account and they can pull it out in Hungary using their ATM card and pay for more time through the Coffee Bar. If you set up an account at Washington Mutual for your student and get them a debit card they can withdraw money here in the town of Vajta at the post office (5 minute walk from campus). That way you can put in as much (or as little) money you would like them to have access to and they can get to that money anytime the post office is open.
